Emma Watson, who is the UN Godwill Ambassador, made a speech to the United Nations this weekend, where she talks about the importance of global gender equality and underlined the world's need for feminism.  Watson announced the launch of a campaign named “HeForShe", Saturday at the United Nations Headquaters in New York.

In the campaign, Watson, notes women's equality is a human right issue that affects everyone, and that woman traditionally have been the one fighting for their equality as long as we can remember. 

"HeForShe is a solidarity movement for gender equality that brings together one half of humanity in support of the other of humanity, for the entirety of humanity,"  Watson says at the beginning of her speech, before launching into a litany of reasons for feminism's necessity.

Watson invites men and woman alike to join in global movement around the world to take the following pledge: “Gender equality is not only a women’s issue, it is a human rights issue that requires my participation. I commit to take action against all forms of violence and discrimination faced by women and girls.”

Over the next 12 months,  the HeforShe campaign aims to enlist 1 billion men and boys around the world to become advocates for women's rights globally.
The Harry potter star have appealed on support on twitter as well.

 
Some celebrites, including Simon Pegg and Acandemy Award winner Forset Whitaker, have joined the campain, showing their support for Emma Watson's  for the gender equality.  They have also tweeted their support for the appeal. Also, 100,000 men have already signed up to the #HeForShe movement, with thousands sharing pictures of themselves holding signs with the hashtag.
